Average Daily Traffic and toll revenue on motorway Katowice-Kraków in 2020

In 2020 the Average Daily Traffic (ADT) on the concession section of the A4 Katowice-Kraków motorway amounted to 36,467 vehicles and was lower by 20% than the traffic level recorded in the same period last year (45,569 vehicles). In 2020 toll revenue amounted to PLN 285,619 thousand and was lower by 17.8% than in 2019 (PLN 347,424 thousand).

As far as cars are concerned, the ADT decreased from 38,349 vehicles in 2019 to 29,806 vehicles in 2020 (22.3% decrease). In 2020 toll revenue from cars amounted to PLN 171,090 thousand and was lower by 23.4% than in 2019 (PLN 223,462 thousand). Difference between dynamics of toll revenue changes as compared to dynamics of Average Daily Traffic changes is a consequence of two factors, i.e. the introduction of preferential rates at the beginning of 2020 for all automatic toll collection methods and a change in the toll rate from October 1, 2020 (from PLN 10 to PLN 12 for the regular rate and from PLN 7 to PLN 8 for the preferential rate).

As far as trucks are concerned, the ADT decreased by 7.7%, i.e. from 7,220 vehicles in 2019 to 6,662 vehicles in 2020, while toll revenue from trucks in 2020 amounted to PLN 114,529 thousand and was lower by 7.6% than in 2019 (PLN 123,962 thousand). In the case of trucks, the toll rates were changed a year earlier, i.e. from March 1, 2019 (from PLN 18 to PLN 20 and from PLN 30 to PLN 35) and at the beginning of 2020, similarly to passenger cars, preferential rates were introduced for automatic methods of toll collection.

The observed in 2020 compared to 2019 decreases in traffic and revenues are a consequence of restrictions being introduced by state institutions and bodies, related to social and economic activity, due to the spread of the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus and the number of COVID-19 cases.
