Average Daily Traffic and toll revenue on motorway Katowice-Kraków in 2023Q1-Q3

Aktualności EN 7 November 2023

In 2023Q1-Q3 the Average Daily Traffic (ADT) on the concession section of the A4 Katowice-Kraków motorway amounted to 48,925 vehicles and was higher by 3% than the traffic level recorded in 2022Q1-Q3 (47,498 vehicles). In 2023Q1-Q3 toll revenue amounted to PLN 376,900 thousand and was higher by 24% than in the same period of last year (PLN 303,907 thousand).

As far as cars are concerned, the ADT increased from 39,355 vehicles in 2022Q1-Q3 to 40,819 vehicles in 2023Q1-Q3 (3.7% increase). In 2023Q1-Q3 toll revenue from cars amounted to PLN 240,094 thousand and was higher by 25.9% than in 2022Q1-Q3 (PLN 190,666 thousand). Difference between dynamics of toll revenue changes as compared to dynamics of ADT changes is the result of both the change in toll rates on July 4, 2022 and April 3, 2023, and the consistently increasing share of automatic payments (for which preferential rates apply) in the traffic structure.

As far as trucks are concerned, the ADT decreased by 0.5%, i.e. from 8,143 vehicles in 2022Q1-Q3 to 8,106 vehicles in 2023Q1-Q3, while toll revenue from trucks in 2023Q1-Q3 amounted to PLN 136,805 thousand and was higher by 20.8% than in 2022Q1-Q3 (PLN 113,241 thousand). Difference between dynamics of toll revenue changes as compared to dynamics of ADT changes is the result of increase in toll rates, which changed on the same dates as for cars.

Comparing the current data of 2022, it ought to be noted that in 2022Q1 the Group recorded a point increase in traffic at the beginning of the armed conflict in Ukraine, caused by a wave of migration and aid to the Ukrainian citizens. Additionally, from March 1, 2022, after prior agreement with the Ministry of Infrastructure, vehicles with Ukrainian registration numbers, as well as vehicles or groups of vehicles reported by Polish non-governmental organizations and foreign organizations and persons as providing aid to Ukrainian citizens, became exempt from tolls. The exemption from tolls for vehicles with Ukrainian registration numbers was in force until May 31, 2022, and vehicles reported as providing humanitarian aid are still toll exempt.
