Average Daily Traffic and toll revenue on the motorway Katowice-Kraków in 2022

Aktualności EN 7 March 2023

In 2022 the Average Daily Traffic (ADT) on the concession section of the A4 Katowice-Kraków motorway amounted to 46,770 vehicles and was higher by 9.1% than the traffic level recorded  in 2021 (42,857 vehicles). In 2022 toll revenue amounted to PLN 409,206 thousand and was higher by 15% than in 2021 (PLN 355,715 thousand).

As far as cars are concerned, the ADT increased from 35,225 vehicles in 2021 to 38,652 vehicles in 2022 (9.7% increase). In 2022 toll revenue from cars amounted to PLN 254,141 thousand and was higher by 13.1% than in 2021 (PLN 224,721 thousand). Difference between dynamics of toll revenue changes as compared to dynamics of ADT changes is the result of change in the rate both in 2022 and in the comparative year, i.e. 2021, consistently increasing share of automatic payments (for which preferential rates apply) in the traffic structure and increased traffic (partly toll exempt), related to the armed conflict in Ukraine.

As far as trucks are concerned, the ADT increased by 6.4%, i.e. from 7,632 vehicles in 2021 to 8,118 vehicles in 2022, while toll revenue from trucks in 2022 amounted to PLN 155,065 thousand and was higher by 18.4% than in 2021 (PLN 130,994 thousand). Similarly to cars, the rates for trucks changed in 2022 and in the comparative year, i.e. 2021. In addition, preferential rates for automatic payments were abolished.

The Group activity in 2021Q1-Q2 was also influenced by restrictions of social and economic activity, as the result of the COVID-19 pandemic. On the other hand, in the current period, the Group recorded a punctual increase in traffic at the beginning of the armed conflict in Ukraine, caused by a wave of migration and aid to the Ukrainian citizens. It ought to be noted that from March 1, 2022, after prior agreement with the Ministry of Infrastructure, vehicles with Ukrainian registration numbers, as well as vehicles or groups of vehicles reported by Polish non-governmental organizations and foreign organizations and persons as providing aid to Ukrainian citizens, became exempt from tolls. The exemption from tolls for vehicles with Ukrainian registration numbers was in force until May 31, 2022, and vehicles reported as providing humanitarian aid are still exempt.
