Average Daily Traffic and toll revenue on motorway Katowice-Kraków in 2023

Aktualności EN 14 March 2024

In 2023 the Average Daily Traffic (ADT) on the concession section of the A4 Katowice-Kraków motorway amounted to 48,150 vehicles and was higher by 3% than the traffic level recorded in 2022 (46,770 vehicles). In 2023 toll revenue amounted to PLN 503,459 thousand and was higher by 23% than in 2022 (PLN 409,206 thousand).

As far as cars are concerned, the ADT increased from 38,652 vehicles in 2022 to 40,085 vehicles in 2023 (3.7% increase). In 2023 toll revenue from cars amounted to PLN 319,358 thousand and was higher by 25.7% than in 2022 (PLN 254,141 thousand). Difference between dynamics of toll revenue changes as compared to dynamics of ADT changes is the result of both the change in toll rates on July 4, 2022 and April 3, 2023, and consistently increasing share of automatic payments (for which preferential rates used to be applied) in the traffic structure.

As far as trucks are concerned, the ADT decreased by 0.6%, i.e. from 8,118 vehicles in 2022 to 8,066 vehicles in 2023, while toll revenue from trucks in 2023 amounted to PLN 184,101 thousand and was higher by 18.7% than in 2022 (PLN 155,065 thousand). Difference between dynamics of toll revenue changes as compared to dynamics of ADT changes is the result of increase in toll rates, which changed on the same dates as for cars.

Comparing the current data to 2022, it ought to be noted that in 1H2022 the Group recorded a point increase in traffic at the beginning of the armed conflict in Ukraine, caused by a wave of migration and aid to the Ukrainian citizens. Additionally, from March 1, 2022, after prior agreement with the Ministry of Infrastructure, vehicles with Ukrainian registration numbers, as well as vehicles or groups of vehicles reported by Polish non-governmental organizations and foreign organizations and persons as providing aid to Ukrainian citizens, became exempt from tolls. The exemption from tolls for vehicles with Ukrainian registration numbers was in force until May 31, 2022, and vehicles reported as providing humanitarian aid were toll exempt until December 31, 2023.
