In the first three quarters of this year, the Stalexport Autostrady Capital Group recorded lower sales revenue but higher net profit than in the corresponding reporting period of 2019.
For the first nine months of 2020, the Stalexport Autostrady Capital Group generated sales revenue lower by approx. 19 percent (PLN 215.8 million) compared to the same period of the previous year. The observed decline in revenue is the result of lower traffic intensity on the A4 Katowice-Kraków motorway as a consequence of imposed restrictions on social and economic activities due to the spread of coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 and the number of COVID-19 cases, with information in this regard provided by the Group in a special weekly current report.
The Group earned a net profit in the amount of PLN 88.1 million, which is approx. 88.2 percent higher than in the first three quarters of 2019. The reason for increase in net profit compared to 2019 are lower general and administrative expenses (down by 53.6 percent) due the lower amount of payments to the State Treasury, i.e. PLN 14.9 million in the first three quarters of 2020 compared to PLN 88.8 million in the corresponding period of 2019. The difference in payments to the State Treasury results from a lower base used for the calculation of these payment in the current period, due to the impact of coronavirus on the Group’s activities, and the change of the dates when these payments are calculated from March 31st and September 30th in the previous years to June 30th and December 31st in the current year.
Traffic intensity on the A4 Katowice-Kraków motorway decreased by approx. 19.4 percent compared to the first nine months of 2019 and on average amounted to approx. 37.4 thous. vehicles per day. A decline in traffic was observed for both passenger cars (21.1%) and heavy goods vehicles (10.1%).
Toll revenue for access to section of the A4 motorway covered by the concession amounted to PLN 212.8 million, which means it dropped by 19.2 percent compared to the corresponding period of the previous year due to the aforementioned coronavirus pandemic and related restrictions.
Activities intended to reduce transaction time and increase the capacity of toll plazas at the A4 Katowice-Kraków motorway continued to be carried out in the reporting period under analysis. Work was being carried out in recent months in relation to the launch of a toll collection method based on licence plate recognition, i.e. videotolling, including for SkyCash app users, which was launched on July 1st of this year, and in relation to the launch of a new website for A4Go electronic toll collection system users. With the launch of the new www.a4go.pl website for drivers on June 23rd of this year, the A4Go formula has been expanded to include the post-paid option.
The work continued in recent months include motorway resurfacing as well as modernization of drainage system, bridge structures and motorway culverts.
