The Concessionaire of the A4 Katowice-Kraków motorway applied to the General Director for National Roads and Motorways for a change in the toll rate for category 1 vehicles

Press Releases 31 July 2020

Starting from 1 October 2020, Stalexport Autostrada Małopolska SA is planning to change the toll rate on the A4 Katowice-Kraków motorway for category 1 vehicles. In the application submitted to the General Director for National Roads and Motorways, the concessionaire also informs about the intention to maintain the preferential rate for drivers of passenger cars using automatic payments. The rates for the other vehicle categories are to remain at the current level.

The last change of toll rates on the A4 Katowice-Kraków motorway for category 1 vehicles took place on 1 March 2015. In January of this year, the rates for automatic payment users were reduced from PLN 10 to PLN 7 at each toll plaza.

According to the application submitted by SAM S.A. to the General Director for National Roads and Motorways, starting from 1 October 2020 the toll rate for category 1 vehicles will be increased by PLN 2 and will amount to PLN 12 at each toll plaza. The changes to the current price list are to be accompanied by maintaining the preferential rate for passenger car drivers using the A4Go and Telepass electronic toll collection as well as Autopay and SkyCash applications. From October 2020, they will pay PLN 4 less at each gate, i.e. PLN 8 less in total.

This means that from 1 October 2020, the rate for passenger car drivers using automatic toll collection will be 20% lower (PLN 2 lower compared to the current rate of PLN 10), We would also like to remind that the rate of PLN 8 was in effect for more than ten years, i.e. since 1 December 2009.

Preferential rates for category 2 and 3 vehicles (PLN 17 at each toll plaza) and category 4 and 5 vehicles (PLN 30 at each toll plaza) will be maintained.

“Despite the planned change in toll rates, drivers who choose automatic payment methods will still be able to travel cheaper thanks to a discount of PLN 4. Until the end of September 2020, persons using A4Go in the pre-paid system can purchase charges, i.e. access tokens for the A4 Katowice-Kraków motorway, at the price of PLN 7, valid for the next two years regardless of any price changes,” said Rafał Czechowski, spokesperson of SAM SA. “The change in toll rates results from the increase in the costs of operation and maintenance of the project, that is the A4 motorway section under our management, over the last five years, during which the toll rate remained at the same level. Over the past months, taking advantage of the lower level of traffic, we have been carrying out intensive renovation works to increase the comfort and safety of travelling on the motorway. We are constantly incurring considerable investment outlays, including those on modern and fast payment methods as well as on works not provided for in the concession agreement,” he added.

In July of this year, SAM SA expanded the selection of automatic toll payment methods to include the SkyCash application and expanded the A4Go electronic toll collection to include the post-paid option. During peak hours, the share of automatic payments in total transactions is approx. 35%. Information about the available options of automatic toll payment can be found at www.automatycznaA4.pl.
