The Concessionaire of the A4 Katowice-Kraków motorway has applied to the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways (GDDKiA) for permission to change toll rates for all vehicle categories.

As per the application submitted to the General Director for National Roads and Motorways, the Concessionaire of the A4 Katowice-Kraków motorway plans to change toll rates for all vehicle categories starting from July 4^th of this year. Furthermore, it is planned to maintain the discount for passenger car drivers using automatic payments at the current amount of PLN 6 for travelling the entire toll section.

How to enjoy cheaper toll rates on the A4 Katowice-Kraków motorway despite the announced price changes? Transition from paying with cash or by card at motorway toll gates to automatic toll collection methods. Thus far, the manager of the toll section of the A4 motorway has issued nearly 50 thous. A4Go electronic toll collection units and recorded more than 1.1 million registered videotolling users. The share of automatic payments in total toll transactions already represents 40% and keeps steadily growing Automatic tolls are not only more efficient due to separate, fast orange lanes, but also cheaper for passenger cards, as they are currently subject to a 25% discount.

New toll rates

In an application submitted to the General Director for National Roads and Motorways, SAM S.A. seeks permission to change toll rates for all vehicle categories starting from July 4^th of this year:

• for category 1 vehicles (other than motorcycles): from PLN 12 to PLN 13;
• for category 2, 3, 4 and 5 vehicles: from PLN 35 to PLN 40.

The above rates will apply at each of the two Toll Plazas i.e. in Mysłowice and Balice.

It is planned to maintain a preferential rate for automatic transactions (A4Go and Telepass electronic toll collection and videotolling using the following applications: Autopay, SkyCash, mPay, IKO and ORLEN Fleet cards) for passenger car tolls. Starting from 4 July 2022, rates for this type of transactions will be PLN 3 lower, i.e. they will amount to PLN 10 at each Toll Plaza. The last time that toll rate applied to passenger cars was seven years ago.

The amount of discount for category 2 and 3 vehicles, effective for these categories starting from 4 July 2022, will be the subject of separate consultation with the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways (GDDKiA). At present, the toll rate applicable to category 2 and 3 vehicles (i.e. PLN 35) is subject to a discount of PLN 13.

“When commuting to work every day, a discount of 3 Polish zlotys at each gate means savings of 240 Polish zlotys per month, whereas annually it adds up to nearly 3 thousand Polish zlotys - an amount of no small significance for the household budget in the age of rising inflation. All that needs to be done is to install one of the free apps on your mobile phone or order the A4Go on-board unit for electronic toll collection,” said Rafał Czechowski, spokesperson of SAM SA. “We are forces to change toll rates due to higher motorway maintenance and investment costs in connection with quickly rising prices of services, building materials and energy carriers in recent times,” he added.
